UNUM Provident

Between 1992 and 2004, Unum Provident resorted to several tactics in order to deny legitimate disability claims from its insured. In some cases, it denied claims outright, while in others it paid far less than what it was supposed to. Unum Provident has reached a settlement after much litigation and a multi-state government investigation. This settlement requires Unum Provident to pay $15 million in fines and reconsider more than 218,000 denied disability claims.

Having Your Unum Provident Disability Claim Reconsidered

The law firm of Daley, DeBofsky and Bryant successfully handles both individual disability policy claims and claims brought against group-purchased disability policies, such as Unum Provident and its subsidiaries. In one such case, (Crespo v. Unum Life Insurance Co. of America, 294 F. Supp. 2d 980 (N.D. Ill. 2003)), the United States Magistrate Judge granted summary judgment to Ms. Crespo, and awarded all back payments as well as future disability benefits, interest, and attorneys' fees. It was found that Unum's decision to deny Ms. Crespo's benefits were, "arbitrary and capricious because its assessment of her claim was neither full nor fair." (To read more about Ms. Crespo's case and others, please peruse our website.)

If you believe that your claim needs to be reevaluated, you need to get professional legal help. While the proposed Unum settlement appears to be good news for the many thousands of policyholders, we at Daley, DeBofsky and Bryant believe that the terms of the proposed settlement are still full of loopholes that will allow Unum to continue to deny valid claims. In order to avoid these loopholes and receive fair and full compensation, we urge you to seek legal counsel to help you navigate through the complex reconsideration process.

We offer free telephone consultations to those who want to find out if they may be affected by the Unum settlement. We possess the expertise that is required to get your claim paid. Please call us at 1-312-372-5000 or e-mail us at  info@ddbchicago.com.
